people say that cats can’t taste ‘sweet’, but pangur always goes nuts trying to lick anything with sugar in it. like honey, frosting, pastries (and obviously this isn’t me feeding her these items, it’s her jumping in like a thieving weasel)

I wonder if it’s like ant pheromones, where humans shouldn’t be capable of detecting them, but some people can and say that they smell like rotting bananas

oh this makes sense!

They didn’t wait a second huh

bro i thought it was awesome

To be honest, everyone thought it was awesome. Or at the least, they thought the big explosion at the end was awesome.

The only people complaining are the Destiny Karens and the ones still using Destiny hate for clout. Y’know, the people that journalists still seem to think hold the Official Opinion.

Fair point. Back in the 90s, Clinton had an aggressive plan for the “National Infrastructure Initiative”.

Verizon, AT&T, BellSouth, CenturyLink and others got $200 Billion in funding, plus tax breaks, favorable changes to laws, and other perks in exchange for a commitment to upgrade the telecommunications infrastructure across the nation to all neighborhoods rich and poor.

Specifically there was supposed to be fiberoptic lines run to every house capable of running at least 50mpbs up and down and up to 500 channels of video costing the average consumer around $50/month. This fiberoptic system was by law supposed to be open to ALL competitors and not be a Comcast owned set of wires or a Time Warner set of wires. This was written to PREVENT area based monopolies and allow everyone to access a “free open market” of service providers.

There were even specific deadlines and goals to reach by state. At least 50% of Pennsylvania households were to be hooked up to this fiberoptic system by 2004. At least 75% of New Jersey by 2005….

Then the telecommunications industry came back and said, “Hey… Look theres been a lot of mergers and acquisitions going on so no one really knows where the money is anymore, not to mention price increases all around…. Give us ANOTHER $200 Billion so we can finish.”

All told, the direct payments, tax incentives, regulation cuts, etc have cost the US almost $5 TRILLION since the 90s.

Do you have fiberoptic internet in your house? Do you have a market of internet service providers competing to provide high speed service to your home? Do you pay less than $50/month for your TV and Internet service?

No?

Then you see that the telecom industry has not fulfilled their side of the bargain and have earned the penalties that are coming their way.

If you paid someone to build a house on land that you own, you wouldn’t keep paying the builders rent as if they were your landlord. You might hire them for routine maintenance if they did a good job though. That’s your monthly bill, routine maintenance of a system that we the people are supposed to own.

Nationalize all telecommunications infrastructure. We paid for it, they were just the contractors who built it and never left. They did a shitty job, never met any of their deadlines, and THEY DONT OWN IT.

I remember last year there was a post that was really excited about the concept of community-created, community-run and community-owned internet  and how simple it is and projects creating it in working class Detroit neighborhoods (much more exciting and empowering than internet owned and run by a neoliberal surveillance state IMO) but now these telecom corporate lobbyists have funneled their vast resources to roadblocking it or making community internet illegal in 26 states

A further update to that article was posted a month and a half ago.

tbh the worst thing about being a self aware mentally ill person is that people assume that because you understand your illness you’re automatically able to actually apply your knowledge to your life and cure yourself

That is the friendliest protest I’ve ever seen. They usually involve way more swearing.

I’m so glad we live in the era of pocket cameras. like think of all the articles and stories we’ve read of “hysterical” or crazed women throughout history.

Wow

Weirdest experience I ever had with this is with a customer at work.

It’s not an uncommon occurrence for men in their 40s and 50s to refer to their wives as “old bags”, so whenever I do the whole “Would you like a bag” spiel, there’s a 50/50 chance they will point to their wife and say “No thanks I have one right here” or say “Nah I left her at home” Or something else awful and then wink at me and call me darling or sweetheart and just make me want to be smited by god right in that second.

However there was one customer that came in and did this whole song and dance. Not out of the ordinary. What was, however, was how he then followed it up by going “I’m kidding, I’m divorced ha ha.” Then, his face drops and he turns to his friend with a look of absolute horror and goes “Wait, that’s probably why. Do you think that’s why she left me Andy? Because I said things like that?” And then proceeded to look like he was re-evaluating his whole life as his friend led him out of the store.

TL; DR = Boomers are weird and this one was given a glimpse behind the veil of self awareness in a Tesco Extra

A really fun thing about having a traumatic childhood for whatever reason is when you casually mention something and then the other person is like WTF and you realise that oh no, that’s actually not a common reference point at all, is it

Another really fun thing is when you’re catching up with family or old pals and they’re like “do you remember when *insert joyful shared experience here*” and you just sort of go “haha yeah, I certainly have a complete repository of memories of such things” because actually that fun experience was bookended by trauma and so your brain just deleted it along with basically the rest of that 5 year period

It’s almost as if collective efforts to boycott establishments actually work when people aren’t all headass with their “there is no ethical consumption under late capitalism/this isn’t the only unethical company ” excuse that they make to thwart calls for boycott, criticism or collective public action lmao

LMAO DREAMWORKS IS TRASH. As an Asian violinist who was excited about seeing this movie before, I just wanna say FUCK YOU. FUCK WHOEVER ALLOWED FOR THIS TO BE IN THE FINAL CUT. Dreamworks finally got the galls to make a movie starring an Asian girl and they decided to put in this Chinese imperialistic agenda against my country!! GREAT //s

For those who didn’t know: that above is the nine-dash line, a controversial and wildly false statement by China, claiming that the Eastern Sea (which belongs to Vietnam alongside other SEAsian countries) was actually their territory according to some obscure history that only they seem to remember - I wonder why. The whole thing an entire mess and a half, but it did die down some time ago. I honestly didn’t expect to see it again, let alone be reminded of it in this seemingly lighthearted family movie of a WESTERN company.

A lot of Vietnamese people are calling to boycott Dreamworks and for this, I completely understand why. They should’ve known better, there’s no excuse to this.

~Mod L

Ugh I was so fucking excited about this movie and now I’m sickened.

Further context: China is trying to claim those waters because they contain lucrative oil deposits and they want to drill in Vietnam’s waters. In enforcing that false territory, they routinely bully fishing boats with fucking warships.

They’ve also bullied the Philippines because the West Philippine Sea contains similar respurces. They have also routinely bullied fishing boats with warships. It’s gotten so bad that Japan has agreed to patrol the waters to make sure China stays in Chinese waters and isn’t going into Southeast Asia.

And remember how China'a been making concentration camps for Muslims? They’ve intentionally removed Mindanao, an island with a predominantly Muslim population, from the maps in the movie.

Please do not support this film in anyway. Filipinos are also boycotting it.

Please reblog and spread.

because it wasnt mentioned here, the movie title is abominable
